The ABS Advantage Academy provides hands-on and online training across three career pathways — biomedical equipment technicians, medical device sales professionals, and field service engineers — to handle the growing needs of the medical equipment industry. Our programs are specifically designed to teach and certify the next generation of Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) professionals, ensuring a pipeline of skilled talent for our industry.

What the FSE Track Curriculum Includes

Imaging Modality Fundamentals
Deep technical foundation across MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine. Learn modality physics, image-chain components, gradient and RF systems, detector arrays, and the service-level theory that lets you diagnose complex faults quickly.
Anesthesia & Critical Care Systems
Servicing anesthesia machines, vaporizers, ventilators, gas delivery systems, and high-acuity ICU monitors. Calibration procedures, leak testing, alarm validation, and the workflow integration that keeps OR and ICU teams running.
OEM Service Tools & Diagnostics
Hands-on experience with manufacturer service software, error-code analysis, and remote diagnostics across major OEMs (GE, Philips, Siemens, Dräger, Mindray). Bridge the gap between an engineering degree and field-ready troubleshooting.
High-Voltage, Cryogen & Radiation Safety

Frequently Asked Questions

Advantage Academy offers three career tracks. The BMET track is designed for individuals entering healthcare technology management as certified biomedical equipment technicians — ideal for career-changers with mechanical or technical aptitude. The Medical Device Sales track is designed for individuals entering medical device sales with a clinical-first foundation — ideal for career-changers, recent graduates, and sales professionals pivoting into healthcare. The Field Service Engineer track is an advanced path for graduates with a BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering, specializing in imaging and anesthesia systems — the most complex equipment in the modern hospital. All three tracks lead directly into healthcare careers that support patient care.
Eligibility varies by track. For the BMET track, no prior experience is required — a background in electronics, engineering technology, IT, or allied health is helpful but not mandatory. For the Medical Device Sales track, no prior experience is required either — any background in sales, clinical care, or life sciences is welcomed; what matters most is drive, communication skills, and willingness to learn. The Field Service Engineer track is the one exception: it requires a completed BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering, since the curriculum runs at engineering-grad pace and dives quickly into modality physics, OEM diagnostics, and high-voltage / cryogen / radiation safety. All three curricula take motivated learners from their starting point to career-readiness.
All three tracks graduate with industry-recognized certifications. BMET track graduates earn healthcare technology management certifications. Sales track graduates earn medical device sales and clinical-sales certifications. Field Service Engineer track graduates earn OEM-aligned manufacturer credentials and prepare for the AAMI CRES (Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist) exam. ABS covers all exam fees as part of tuition, so there is no additional cost to you. Specific certifications are detailed in the Program Guide — available for download above.
All three tracks are hybrid. Online coursework covers foundational theory, device principles, and certification-prep content. In-person sessions provide hands-on training — lab time with actual medical equipment for BMET students, hospital protocol, ride-alongs, and capstone field training for Sales students, and OEM-aligned modality labs (imaging and anesthesia systems) for FSE students.
Yes — all three tracks are direct pipelines into ABS. Graduates of the BMET track who meet performance standards are considered for BMET roles on our field technician team. Graduates of the Sales track are considered for inside and outside sales roles with ABS. Graduates of the FSE track are considered for Field Service Engineer roles servicing imaging and anesthesia accounts in our customer base. None of the tracks are just training — each is a career pathway.
Most sales bootcamps run 8–12 weeks and focus almost entirely on closing techniques. Advantage Academy’s Sales track runs 17 weeks — the most comprehensive in the industry — and frontloads clinical foundation, HTM product knowledge, and hospital protocol before sales methodology. The result: graduates who can credibly walk into an OR, biomed department, or C-suite meeting and speak the language of every stakeholder. That clinical-first depth is what makes ABS sales reps effective in complex hospital environments.
Students enroll in one track at a time. If you’re unsure which path fits, our admissions team can help you choose based on your background and career goals — reach out before applying. BMET graduates sometimes transition to sales or field service engineering roles later in their career, and the clinical foundation from our Sales track transfers well into technical roles. The FSE track is the most prerequisite-heavy path (a BS in EE, ME, or BME), but graduates from any track set themselves up for long-term growth in healthcare technology.
